TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: ZSU ZSU STRAUB

Twenty three years ago, a month into Mulgrave's first school year, Linda Hamer asked Ms. Straub to join Mulgrave's faculty and develop its PE programme. Today, Zsu Zsu is Mulgrave's longest-tenured teacher and she continues to tirelessly work towards the personal and athletic growth of Mulgrave's students as the school's Junior School PE teacher and Athletics Coordinator.

This week, as Zsu Zsu gets ready to host over 240 Grade 5 girls for the annual ISEA volleyball tournament, we sat down to talk about her sixteen years of organising the tournament and to learn more about what inspires her as a teacher and coach. Get to know Zsu Zsu in our most recent Teacher Spotlight.

CROSS COUNTRY SEASON MAKES MULGRAVE HISTORY

Yesterday's fifth and final race of the Upper School cross country season was one for Mulgrave's history books. If you have been following Mr. Moore's detailed race reports you were aware that going into Zones our Junior Girls team was poised to achieve what no other Mulgrave cross country team had achieved to date - a place at Provincials. The race at Dan Ross in Squamish saw our Titans achieve many firsts and secure multiple spots at Provincials. For a full report of the race click here.

It has been an exciting season! If you have not had a chance to do so,

we encourage you to follow the Mulgrave teams through their earlier races at Loutet, Sechelt, Rice Lake, and Ambleside for great examples of athleticism, teamwork, grit, focus, and dedication.

TEACHER-SHARED RESOURCES - PARENTING FOR THE DIGITAL FUTURE BLOG

Image

This week Mr. Ovenell-Carter shares a great blog that explores 'the task of parenting for a digital future'. The blog is put together by the London School of Political Science and Economics and is part of a research project that is looking into how the evolution of our digital realm impacts the way we parent and the way we govern. You can access the blog and its resources here.

PEOPLE OF MULGRAVE - NAVIDA SULEMAN

Image

Ever wondered who puts together event-favourites such as BINGO Night and Bowling with Dad? Let us introduce you to Navida. Whether she is leading the charge by coordinating the logistics of a 200(+) attendee event, or she is behind-the-scenes grilling at the Welcome Back BBQ or packaging baked goodies at Baking Buffet, Navida's objective is always to give back to a community that she feels deeply connected to.

We had a chance to chat with Navida after she dropped off her son, Kayam (G4), on her way to BCAA (where she works full time leading the Finance team).  Navida was kind enough to take some time to chat about what she enjoys most about her work for the MVP and the Mulgrave community. Listen to our interview and/or read our most recent MVP Spotlight to get to know her better.

EMERGENCY TEXT SYSTEM SUCCESSFULLY TESTED THIS WEEK

This week, Mulgrave completed the test of its mass text messaging system. If you did not receive a message, we encourage you to review the contact information on file through the PCR Portal button in the parent portal. Mulgrave relies on the mulgrave.com website to share timely and important information in the event of a school closure, a delayed start or an emergency. In such events, we may also send a text message. Due to limitations from Rogers, our service provider, we use the cell phone number of Parent #1 for the those messages. Please check your contact information if you believe you should have received the test.

This week's Inside the Classroom features learning happening outside Mulgrave's doors. Our G6s have taken classroom learning to the Plains of Abraham, the National Gallery and the Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal as part of their much-anticipated Eastern Canada trip.

Among some of the highlights:

  • Learning about Old Quebec was special to learn about the history and the rebuilding of the city. (Jayden)
  • During our tour of Notre Dame Basilica, I learned how churches work and the different areas of worship. (Sebastian)
  • When learning about the battle on the Plains of Abraham, I understood the conflict between the British and the French. (Madelaine)
